Steve Spurrier supports 8-team college football playoff
Steve Spurrier is in favor of an expanded playoff for college football.
The former Florida Gators head coach wants to see an 8-team playoff that includes the Power 5 conference champions and three at-large teams. He wants to see teams like UCF get a shot if they have a great season, according to the Gainesville Sun’s Graham Hall.
.@SteveSpurrierUF on playoff expansion: “I think it definitely ought to go to 8 teams. All the (Power 5) conference champions would go, and then 3 at-large teams would go. Then #UCF would have a chance.”

Spurrier is a big talker and expresses confidence and fearlessness, so it’s no surprise that he thinks the titles should be decided on the field. He’s actually long been a supporter of an expanded college football playoff. Back in 2012, he said he liked a 4-team playoff and would like the 8-team playoff when it expands to that.
Steve Spurrier a fan of four-team playoff. "And I (will) like the eight team when we go to that in about five years."

Spurrier’s comments proved to be incredibly prescient. He said the playoff expansion would come in about five years. It’s been six since he’s said that, and all the talk seems to lean towards that direction.
