Boston College QB makes big decision after benching
Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos appears set to hit the transfer portal, and could draw a lot of attention.
Castellanos plans to enter the portal after the Eagles benched him in favor of backup Grayson James, according to Pete Nakos of On3. Boston College put James in during the third quarter of last week’s win over Syracuse, and coach Bill O’Brien said James will remain the starter for the rest of the year.
Castellanos should get plenty of looks from solid programs once he officially enters the portal. The former UCF quarterback established himself as a legitimate dual-threat quarterback in two years at Boston College, throwing for 2,248 yards with 15 touchdowns last season, though he also threw 14 interceptions. Just as notably, he rushed for 1,113 yards in 2023, though that number fell in 2024. He has 18 touchdown passes and five interceptions in 2024, and helped the team to a 4-1 to start the year before a recent skid dropped them to 5-4.
Before being benched against Syracuse, Castellanos was 2/7 for 14 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Consistently will be a big factor in how he does at his next stop.
