Virginia Tech’s spring game got off to an inauspicious start on Saturday when one of the parachuters taking part in a pregame stunt got caught on the scoreboard.
Photos and video quickly emerged from Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. showing one of the parachuters, who had flown in carrying an American flag, stuck on the large videoboard. A gust of wind seemingly blew him off his path, and his parachute promptly got caught on the edge of the scoreboard.

The start of the spring game was briefly delayed, as a ladder truck had to be brought in to get the guy down. It actually took two trucks to do successfully, as the first one did not have a tall enough ladder.

In a statement, the school confirmed that the skydiver had been “safely secured and is currently stable.”

There is some newfound excitement around Virginia Tech football this year stemming from James Franklin’s arrival as the new coach. Franklin has to be hoping this is not a harbinger of things to come.
