Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday was amazed by a certain stat about Jared Goff. The New York Jets quarterback, however, forgot to fact-check it before sharing it with the world.

Goff overcame a poor start during the Detroit Lions’ Sunday night clash against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. He threw five interceptions over the game’s first two-and-a-half quarters. But Goff bounced back to lead the Lions to a historic comeback, overcoming a 23-7 deficit to win 26-23.

On Tuesday, Rodgers appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and praised Goff. The Jets star presented a stat about Goff throwing four or more interceptions seven times throughout his career and winning every contest.

“Amazing stat, though,” shared Rodgers to McAfee and his crew. “Is this a true stat, that [Jared Goff] has thrown four or more picks seven times, and he’s won every single one of those games? Is that for real? That’s wild.”

The stat ended up being fake. It was spread by an X user who just wanted to make a funny post during the game. But the erroneous stat has been viewed on X nearly four million times as of writing.

In all fairness to Rodgers, he asked McAfee as well to verify if the stat was true. McAfee confirmed that it was. But that didn’t spare Rodgers from getting ridiculed by fans online.

Goff entered Sunday’s game having thrown four or more interceptions just once in his career. The lone instance was in 2018 when he went 20/44 for 180 yards with four interceptions in a 15-6 loss to the Chicago Bears.

After the Lions’ win on Sunday, Goff is now 1-1 in such games.
