Jets have a different view of infamous Aaron Rodgers meeting

The New York Jets, unsurprisingly, have a different characterization of their now-infamous meeting with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers blasted the Jets for their handling of his release, but the Jets would not entirely agree with how he characterized the meeting. In an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” Friday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said the Jets had essentially invited Rodgers to stop in for a meeting when they already knew he was going to be in the area.

“What I was told at the time was that Aaron had indicated to them, ‘Hey, I’m going to be on that side of the country in this week.’ And they said, ‘Great, come into the building,'” Pelissero said. “There had been ongoing dialogue up until that about a variety of different things, because Aaron Glenn and him really don’t know each other.

“Aaron clearly, from his perspective, went in there thinking we’re going to have a conversation about the future. The Jets very quickly informed him they were going in another direction. … He thought that the door was going to be open.”

In his recent interview with “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers claimed he had flown across the country just to meet with the Jets only to be told he was out. That is obviously very different to Rodgers telling the Jets he would be in the area already, then being invited for a meeting with team brass.

The two sides appear to be on the same page about how the Jets simply informed Rodgers they would be moving on. Rodgers simply thought it would be more of a conversation, but the Jets were not planning on there being any discussion.

Rodgers may feel slighted by how the Jets handled this, and that might have led him to embellish some of the details. Of course, that public airing of grievances might just validate the Jets’ decision to move on. A lot of their fans certainly see it that way, especially if it turns out that Rodgers was misinterpreting some signals.
