Adam Humphries suggests Brady’s age was factor in not signing with Patriots

Tom Brady

Most wide receivers would jump at the chance to have Tom Brady throwing to them, but one of the top slot receivers on the market opted to turn down the opportunity for a very interesting reason.

Adam Humphries, who signed with the Tennessee Titans this offseason, admitted that he turned down a four-year offer from the New England Patriots in part because of concerns about how much longer Brady would be around and at the top of his game.

“Obviously, he’s the G.O.A.T. That’s that simple,” Humphries said, via Travis Haney of The Athletic. “But there’s so much that factors into a decision. It was a four-year deal. Who knows how many (years) he’s got left? There’s a lot that goes into it.”

It’s worth noting that Humphries had already verbally committed to Tennessee by this point, and not wanting to go back on his word was certainly a factor in his choice. Still, Brady’s age is an interesting consideration, especially when taking into account how well he is still doing and how adamant he has been about his intention to keep playing. Brady has defied age so far, but Humphries seems to be of the thinking that you just never know when it will catch up with you, and he doesn’t want to be on the wrong end of it if it happens to Brady.
