Adrian Peterson to plead no contest to lesser charge, avoid jail time
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will plead no contest on Tuesday to a lesser charge than the felony child abuse charge he is currently facing, according to Pro Football Talk. By pleading no contest to one count of misdemeanor reckless assault, Peterson will reportedly resolve his case.
Assuming the agreement is approved by the judge, Peterson will pay a $4,000 fine, be placed on probation and be required to complete 80 hours of community service. The plea will not include reference to family violence or violence against a minor.
If Peterson’s case is indeed resolved without him facing any jail time, it will be interesting to see how the league handles his status. While he has been getting paid during his absence, Peterson has technically already been suspended for eight games.
“We will review the court documents,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Pro Football Talk on Tuesday. “We cannot speculate on a timetable for a decision.”
The league will likely work to come to a decision when the Vikings return from their bye next week.
