Report: Alabama could lose new OC to NFL after less than a month
The Alabama Crimson Tide’s unsettled offseason may be in danger of getting even more chaotic.
New Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is under consideration to become the new offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Grubb followed new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer to Tuscaloosa last month after previously serving as Washington’s offensive coordinator.
Grubb leaving would definitely be a blow to Alabama as the program looks to settle things down following Nick Saban’s retirement. The appeal from his standpoint is fairly obvious, as he would be able to go back to Washington and take on an NFL job. Alabama would then have to go back to the drawing board and find a new offensive coordinator for DeBoer’s first year in charge. It would also risk further destabilization for a team that has already lost a lot of talent following Saban’s exit.
Grubb has no NFL coaching experience, but is highly rated in league circles. The Seattle offensive coordinator job will be an important one, with new head coach Mike Macdonald focusing on the defensive side of the ball, so whoever gets the job will have free reign over the offense.
