As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith has been conditionally reinstated by the league, and will be able to take part in offseason activities with the Dallas Cowboys.
Cowboys’ pass rusher Aldon Smith was conditionally reinstated by the NFL today, per source. He now is cleared to take part in Cowboys’ virtual off-season program.

The 30-year-old pass rusher has not played since 2015. At his best, he was a fearsome pass rusher, collecting 33.5 sacks in his first two NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Substance abuse issues derailed his career after that.
Smith has apparently been clean for some time. He’ll now get his second chance in the NFL, and will get the opportunity to show the Cowboys that he can still play at a high level.
