Alfred Morris needed ride to Redskins meeting when 1991 Mazda wouldn’t start

Most of you have probably heard about how Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris gets around by now. Despite earning an NFL salary, Morris still drives the same 1991 Mazda sedan that he bought during his junior year of college at FAU. Morris loves the car and said he is never getting rid of it even if he buys a new one, but the old beater nearly made him miss a recent team meeting.

According to D.C. Sports Bog’s Sarah Kogod, Morris’ car — which he has named “Bentley” — would not start when the Redskins returned home from their trip to Dallas earlier this week. As a result, he had to ask one of the women who works in the apartment complex where he lives for a ride to Redskins Park.

“When I got back from Dallas, she wouldn’t start,” Morris said. “I think she was mad at me for leaving her for so long.”

Morris successfully jump-started Bentley when he returned home later that night, but the winters of Washington, D.C. are a lot harsher than those of Florida. As a result, the Redskins rookie has decided to make a tough decision and put his favorite set of wheels away for a while.

“I’m still driving my baby, but for her health I gotta put her up,” he said, shaking his head. “It’s flu season and stuff. Keep her warm. Loyalty is rare nowadays, so it’s something I take pride in. When the weather warms up, she’ll come back out.”

As of now, it doesn’t sound like Morris intends to follow in the footsteps of some other players and coaches by ordering a custom Dodge Challenger or buying an expensive classic car. Come springtime he’ll be proudly back behind the wheel of his 1991 Mazda 626.
