FootballPittsburgh Steelerstush push

Another NFL team is considering using the tush push

Eagles tush push false start

The Philadelphia Eagles are still the only team that has mastered the “tush push” play, but at least one other squad is giving some real thought to using it in games.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin admitted Tuesday that his team has given thought to using the tush push, copying what has become the Eagles’ signature move. However, he suggested there was a chance the team could run it with someone other than a quarterback, trying to protect 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers.

Q: Has Mike Tomlin thought about using the Tush Push?

A: Yes.

Q: With a player other than a QB?

A: "I'm not going to get into strategy detail. You guys come to practice, you see what we do. You guys are trying to get me on record. Next."

The NFL is a copycat league, but no team other than the Eagles has truly mastered the short-yardage play. Not a lot of teams have even made the attempt, but the Steelers are at least looking into it.

On the other hand, the Steelers do not really have the strong, mobile quarterback that the Eagles have in Jalen Hurts. They also do not quite have the offensive line that the Eagles boast. There may also be some reluctance to turn to the play given how unpopular it is in some corners of the league.

The Steelers were one of the 22 teams that supported the unsuccessful effort to ban the tush push during the offseason. They are not above using it if it benefits them, though.
