Baker Mayfield goes viral for incredible stiff-arm move on Nick Bosa

Baker Mayfield stiff-arming Nick Bosa

Baker Mayfield continues to pull rabbits out of his hat this season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs quarterback Mayfield sent the Internet into a frenzy on Sunday with his improbable play late in the fourth quarter against the San Francisco 49ers. Trailing 20-17 with less than two minutes left to play, Tampa Bay was facing a 4th-and-7 from their own 37-yard line. 49ers defensive star Nick Bosa managed to get around the right tackle for what looked poised to be a certain sack on Mayfield to end the game. But, “Not so fast,” said Mayfield.

The former No. 1 overall pick Mayfield somehow managed to stiff-arm Bosa for several seconds while keeping his legs churning and moving out to his right. That allowed Mayfield to keep the play alive long enough to find Rachaad White for an eight-yard pass to pick up the first down.

Here is the unbelievable video.

Take a look at a closer angle of the stiff arm.

Mayfield (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) was at a significant size disadvantage there to Bosa, who stands 6-foot-4 and 266 pounds and is also arguably the most explosive defender in the entire NFL. But Mayfield astoundingly managed to hold Bosa off, stay on his feet the entire time, AND fire a strike to convert the first down.

Tampa Bay would eventually get a field goal on the drive to tie the game, but they ultimately lost when San Francisco responded on the next drive with a field goal of their own as time expired to win 23-20. But that stiff arm from Mayfield, who has already done this kind of thing before, will still definitely be going down in his career highlight reel.
