Ex-XFL star quarterback released by Broncos

Ben DiNucci on the bench

The Denver Broncos are moving on from one of their quarterbacks.

Ben DiNucci was released by the Broncos on Monday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports.

DiNucci signed with the Broncos last offseason and wound up on their practice squad for the entire year. He signed a reserve/future contract in January, but Denver is parting ways with him after drafting Bo Nix and acquiring Zach Wilson in a trade this offseason. The Broncos also still have Jarrett Stidham on their roster.

DiNucci was a 7th-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys out of James Madison in 2020. He started a “Sunday Night Football” game for Dallas at Philly in 2020 and threw for 180 yards in the game.

After he was waived by the Cowboys in 2022, DiNucci was drafted by the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL and became their starting quarterback. The 27-year-old passed for 2,671 yards, 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while rushing for 3 touchdowns in 10 games. His strong play in the XFL led the Broncos to give him another opportunity in the NFL.
