Report: Blaine Gabbert ‘landslide favorite’ to win job over Colin Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick has been ruled out of the San Francisco 49ers’ first preseason game with shoulder tightness, leading many to believe this is a great opportunity for Blaine Gabbert to steal the starting quarterback job. Those in the know, however, insist there was really no competition to begin with.
In response to a question from a Twitter follower on Sunday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Kaplan called Gabbert the “landslide favorite” to be named San Francisco’s starter.
He has been landside favorite for weeks, but Chip is trying to be fair to CK. https://t.co/QYnS2WjLP6

You have to wonder if Kaepernick ever had a chance. He wasn’t even cleared to begin throwing until much later in the offseason after having multiple surgeries after last season concluded. You might get the impression that Kaepernick has a shot when you read this report, but it sounds like Gabbert would really have to mess up to lose Chip Kelly’s trust.
