The Cleveland Browns are in need of a franchise quarterback after their 2014 first-round pick of Johnny Manziel appears to have turned into a bust.
Speaking in a video interview posted on Cleveland.com, Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot said she believes the Browns will select a quarterback with their No. 2 overall draft pick this year.
Cabot does allow for the possibility that the Browns acquire a quarterback they believe they can win with in free agency or via trade, which would then change their draft plans. In such a scenario, she mentions a player like defensive end Joey Bosa as a potential draft pick for the team at No. 2.
It’s not yet known whom the Browns favor on their draft board especially at quarterback, but the three names Cabot mentioned are the ones atop most analysts boards: Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch. We already know that the Browns got cozy with Lynch last week.
