Watch: Browns fail to score from 1-yard line despite having eight chances
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns’ offense, their incompetence was put on full display during Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Looking to build upon their 6-0 lead in the first quarter, the Browns had the ball at Buffalo’s 1-yard line and looked like they were about to score an easy touchdown. Thanks to two pass interference penalties in the end zone, they were given a total of eight chances to score from either the 1- or 2-yard line. They turned it over on downs.

As you can see, Nick Chubb was nowhere close to scoring on that 4th down toss play, and the Bills appeared to know it was coming. Chubb himself had five chances to score and was unable to move the ball anywhere.
While Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens has deserved the criticism he has faced recently, playcalling is only half the battle. It shouldn’t matter what play is called when you get eight chances from the 1-yard line. At some point, the players have to execute. Mayfield and the Browns have consistently failed to do that all season.
