Ryan Fitzpatrick has been dealing with a knee sprain he suffered in last weekend’s game against the Miami Dolphins, and the injury will reportedly keep him out of action on Sunday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, second-year quarterback Bryce Petty is going to start for the New York Jets against the Los Angeles Rams.

So, Jets are starting QB Bryce Petty today vs Rams, per sources.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said earlier in the day that Jets players had been anticipating that Petty would get the start.

“All week, Fitzpatrick has been optimistic about his chances of playing against the Rams. But a source informed of the thinking of coach Todd Bowles says it’s a real decision based on how Fitzpatrick warms up,” Rapoport said. “If there is any swelling or he’s not as mobile as he needs to be, Petty gets the start. But based on the week of practice, players believe it’ll be Petty under center.”

Todd Bowles said earlier in the week that Fitzpatrick will not be on a short leash, but you have to wonder if the Jets coach wants to get a look at Petty with New York’s season essentially over.
