Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a serious car accident on Tuesday afternoon. Newton was seen being loaded onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

Newton was reportedly traveling down I-277 in North Carolina when he was involved in a crash with another car, causing Cam’s truck to flip on its side. Jonathan Jones of The Charlotte Observer shared some terrifying images and videos from the scene.

Fortunately, Newton was seen smiling and conscious before he was taken to the hospital. WBTV’s Steve Crump reports that police say he did not suffer any serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

Jones adds that Newton was able to communicate with officers who were on scene. A witness claims to have seen Newton’s truck flip multiple times.

Our thoughts are with Newton and anyone else who was involved in the accident.

UPDATE: The Panthers have announced that Newton is in “fair condition” but will spend the night in the hospital.

Cam Newton is in fair condition and undergoing tests at Carolinas Medical Center and will remain there overnight for observation.
