Cam Newton has troubling update about his injured shoulder
The Carolina Panthers lost their sixth straight game on Monday night, and Cam Newton has clearly been limited by a nagging shoulder injury during the rough stretch. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to have any idea how to fix it.
After his team managed just 9 points in a loss to the New Orleans Saints, Newton was asked about the issues he has had with his surgically-repaired shoulder. He admitted his strength is not where it needs to be and nothing he has tried seems to work.
“I wish I could say what the injury is because I don’t know what it is either.” – Cam on shoulder. Says he’s tried everything including acupuncture.

Cam Newton on his shoulder: “Just don’t have the strength… There’s a lot going on. It’s just been the same. It’s just been that.”

Newton has thrown just two touchdowns compared to six interceptions over the past three games. One of his picks on Monday was a ball that he tried to loft to Devin Funchess in one-on-one coverage, but the pass was badly underthrown. The former NFL MVP has had barely any zip on his throws lately, and the result has been a passer rating of 62.9 in Carolina’s last three games.
While we have seen plenty of concerning signs about Newton’s shoulder health and he may end up needing another procedure this offseason, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said after Monday’s loss that there are no plans to shut Newton down.
