Cary Williams: Andre Johnson is ‘not the same guy’

Andre-Johnson

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is having a relatively quiet season by his Pro Bowl standards. He has found the end zone only one time and is on pace for around 1,000 yards receiving after racking up over 3,000 yards and nine touchdowns from 2012-2013. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cary Williams thinks the 2014 Johnson is a different guy.

“He’s not the same guy,” Williams said after the Eagles beat the Texans on Sunday, via CBS Houston. “Not the same guy.”

Johnson has been healthy this season and is 33, so he should have a couple of good years left in his legs. But Williams wasn’t really talking about his physical ability.

“I don’t know if he’s happy,” he added. “I”m not sure. I know he had some disputes before the season in a couple years now.

“But I know Andre Johnson. I know what he’s done over his career. Just the attitude. It just wasn’t the same. He’s a great player. I’m not sure if he was happy or anything like that. But I know that was a different Andre than I know.”

The Texans have lost four of their last five after getting off to a 3-1 start this year. Before the season, Johnson was clearly unhappy with the direction of the franchise and at one point reportedly told the team he wanted out.

Johnson has spent all 12 seasons of his career with the Texans. He’s an elite talent who is sick of coming up short. He may end up with another team next season because of it.
