Not many people can make Shawne Merriman looked pint-sized, but Joe Alt managed to pull off the feat this week.

The retired ex-Chargers All-Pro linebacker Merriman made an appearance this week at the team’s annual Media Day. At one point, Merriman posed for a photo with the Chargers rookie offensive lineman Alt, and the results were pretty staggering.

“So glad I’m retired cause ain’t no way,” wrote a suddenly much shorter-looking Merriman in the post. Take a look.

Merriman, now 40, is certainly no small man. He was listed at 6-foot-4 and 261 pounds during his NFL playing career. But compared to Alt, who is a mountainous 6-foot-8 and 322 pounds, that does not mean very much.

Alt, 21, was the Chargers’ first-round draft pick this year (No. 5 overall) and will be tasked with protecting star quarterback Justin Herbert on the right side. He sure looks physically up to the task and already seems to have won over new head coach Jim Harbaugh as well.
