Chip Kelly had ‘zero’ issues with DeSean Jackson, cut him because of his size

DeSean-JacksonIt seems fairly obvious at this point that Chip Kelly and DeSean Jackson did not get along when the star wide receiver was still a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. One of the last reports we heard about Jackson’s time in Philly indicated that he threw temper tantrums and cussed out Kelly on several occasions. Kelly is still denying all of that.

In anticipation of the Washington Redskins visiting the Eagles on Sunday, Kelly was asked this week what type of concerns he had over Jackson’s character off the field.

“Zero,” the head coach responded, per Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

While that answer should not surprise anyone, the reason Kelly gave for the Eagles releasing Jackson will probably make you laugh.

“Yeah, just trying to build the overall team in terms of what we’re looking for offensively and how we wanted to get bigger at the wideout spot and that’s what we did,” he said.

Riiiiight. Does Kelly think we have all forgotten that Jackson posted career highs across the board last season? In Kelly’s first year as the head coach in Philly, Jackson hauled in 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns. His physical makeup looked perfectly fine for what the Eagles were trying to accomplish, if you ask me.

We realize Kelly isn’t going to stir the pot by admitting he had problems with DeSean, but he could have hinted that Jackson’s release had to do with salary cap management or something. No one is going to buy the size excuse.
