Coby Fleener still has not been cleared from concussion suffered in 2017

The New Orleans Saints released Coby Fleener last week, and it sounds like there’s a chance the veteran tight end may have trouble finding another team to sign with given his health situation.

Fleener has suffered five concussions during his NFL career, the latest of which ended his 2017 season in Week 12. When asked about the decision to release Fleener, Saints head coach Sean Payton indicated the 29-year-old still has not been fully cleared from that.

“He’s still working through the process of getting cleared and he’s still working through being without symptoms, but I also felt like for the team it was something that was going to be best for us,” Payton said, via the team’s official website.

While he has not indicated as much, Fleener may end up having to think about retirement. Suffering multiple concussions is scary enough, let alone not being fully cleared from one nearly six months later.
