Report: Cody Kessler poised to start Week 9 for Browns

Cody Kessler

The Cleveland Browns finally have options at the quarterback position this season, and one report says they are poised to have rookie Cody Kessler start in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Kessler suffered a concussion in the Browns’ Week 7 game against Cincinnati and missed Week 8 as a result. But he was cleared to return to action Monday, and he participated in practice Wednesday. Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot says Kessler looked sharp.

The Browns, who are 0-8 and have had six different players throw passes for them this season, finally have some decent options for a change. They can name Kessler their starter for Week 9, or they can continue with veteran Josh McCown, who started in Week 8 and threw for 341 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a loss to the Jets.

Though he has not produced any wins, Kessler’s numbers are the best of any quarterback to take snaps for the Browns this season. He has passed for 947 yards, four touchdowns and one interception this season.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson said he is not in a rush to name a starter for Sunday’s game.
