If you’re looking for hints as to who is winning the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback battle, you’re not going to get them from training camp reps.
Coach Chip Kelly said that Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert will each get 12 snaps with the first and second teams during camp, according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury-News.
Kaepernick, who has been medically cleared to participate, will have to prove to Kelly that he can move the ball without turning it over.

“First and foremost, what QB can handle what they’re doing and get the team in the end zone, and obviously you have to protect the ball in doing that,” Kelly said.
While Kelly isn’t tipping his hand, the belief is that there’s a frontrunner for the job already. Kaepernick has plenty of work to do.
