Darren Sharper surrenders after arrest warrant issued for alleged rapes
Darren Sharper turned himself in to police in Los Angeles on Thursday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest in New Orleans. In addition to to the charges Sharper faces for allegedly drugging and raping two women in LA, he will likely also face charges from two sexual assault incidents that took place in New Orleans last year.
Sharper had been free on bail after being charged in LA at the time the warrant was issued. A warrant was also issued for 26-year-old Eric Nunez, who has been described as an acquaintance of Sharper. Detectives say two women were allegedly assaulted by Sharper on the night of Sept. 23 and claim they were also raped by Nunez.
“New information uncovered also indicates that Nunez allegedly raped both women at the same location,” New Orleans police spokeswoman Remi Braden said.
Police also said in a statement that an aggravated rape conviction carries a potential life sentence without parole.
Sharper has been named as a suspect in at least eight sexual assault cases. He was reportedly suspected of seven rapes and 11 druggings in four different states before we learned about another sexual battery accusation in Miami, meaning there are ongoing investigations in at least five states.
When you look at the entire picture, Sharper has been accused of being a serial rapist.
