Davante Adams: Anyone who doubts Packers’ running back tandem is ‘on meth’

Aaron Jones Byron Jones wave

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams has been sidelined with a toe injury over the past two weeks, and he has been very impressed with the way the team’s running backs have stepped up in his absence. In fact, he thinks you would have to be on drugs to believe they are anything less than the best running back tandem in football.

After Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams combined for just shy of 200 yards from scrimmage in Monday night’s 23-22 win over the Detroit Lions, Adams tweeted that anyone who does not think the duo is the “filthiest” in the NFL must be “on meth.”

That’s probably a bit extreme, but Jones and Williams have helped carry the Packers this season. In last week’s impressive road win over the Dallas Cowboys, it was Jones who exploded for 182 total scrimmage yards and four touchdowns. Williams was the more effective back on Monday, rushing for 104 yards and adding four catches for 32 yards and a score.

Of course, the Packers also received an insane assist from the officiating crew in the fourth quarter against Detroit, but their running game has stepped up when they have needed it. In part because of Adams’ injury, Green Bay has become a run-heavy team this season. Jones and Williams have answered the call.
