Report: Derek Carr expected to receive $40 million per season

Derek Carr is entering his final season under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, and it sounds like the sides want to extend their relationship. Such an extension will likely be quite lucrative for the quarterback.

On Tuesday, Jordan Schultz reported that the new Raiders head coach and GM pairing both support the team paying Carr top-tier QB money. Schultz also said that Carr would be open to a short-term contract.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vincent Bonsignore says a Carr extension would likely be in the $40 million per season range.

Carr is turning 31 soon and set to make just under $20 million in 2022. That would mark the fourth straight season he made $20 million or a shade under that amount, which is a pretty good bargain for competent quarterback. But at $35-$40 million, Carr starts taking up a big part of the salary cap, leaving questions about how well you could build around him.

Carr passed for 4,804 yards, 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season.
