Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe has a history of neck injuries, so fans were given a scare on Tuesday when he left practice and had his upper body examined.

Several NFL reporters noted that Wolfe took off his pads at training camp and left the field, and Denver’s training staff appeared to be examining his neck and shoulder area.

#Broncos Derek Wolfe has taken off his pads after spending time with trainers and is now heading inside. They were looking at his upper body near his neck. Remember Wolfe went on IR last year with a neck issue that required surgery.

Wolfe missed two games with a neck injury in 2016, and a similar ailment eventually landed him on injured reserve last season. Fortunately, he later returned to practice.

While he has battled a number of injuries over the past few seasons, Wolfe is one of the Broncos’ most important players on the defensive line. It’s always a concern when a player suffers what could be a neck injury, but the fact that he returned to the field on Tuesday is certainly a positive sign.
