Coaches often dismiss questions and speculation about their job status, but Dirk Koetter acknowledged that he is affected by them.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach has not been told anything by the team’s owners yet about his job status. But with the Bucs 4-11 a season after going 9-7, there have been plenty of questions about Koetter’s job.
The coach says the rumors and chatter have bothered him.
“Well of course. You know, it’s your life. It’s your life,” Koetter said, via the Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud. “It’s what you do. So, just flip it around and of course it is (a distraction). But we’re all — players and coaches — we’re paid to do a job, and you try to do it to the best of your ability. That’s all you can do.”
As if the questions about Koetter’s job haven’t been enough, making matters worse are the Grumors. There have been reports about Jon Gruden getting back into coaching, with the Bucs being mentioned as his possible destination.
The Bucs have finished last in the division in all but two seasons since Gruden was fired.
