Donte Whitner was released by the Cleveland Browns on Saturday and took somewhat of a parting shot at the team afterwards.
Whitner bid the city adieu and then expressed disappointment with the timing of the move:
Cleveland I'm gone!

love you Cleveland. My plan is in a different place. Their playing MONEYBALL now! Be blessed!

I just wish they had common courtesy and would've done it weeks ago when free agency was going on… #25thHour… But I'll bounce back!

Whitner was owed $6.2 million this season after signing a four-year, $28 million contract with the Browns prior to the 2014 season. The team will save nearly $4 million by releasing Whitner, but as he said, it would have been nice if they had done it before free agency began.
Still, after recording 81 tackles and 1.5 sacks last season, Whitner should find no shortage of interested teams, even entering his age 31 season.
