Drew Brees open to sharing QB position with Taysom Hill in 2020
Drew Brees has said that he will only play for the New Orleans Saints if he decides to continue his NFL career in 2020, but that could mean playing in an offense where Taysom Hill takes on a more significant role. If that is what Sean Payton wants to do, Brees insists he would be fine with it.
Brees said during an appearance on “PFT Live” Friday that he would have no problem giving up a significant portion of his snap count to Hill.
Drew Brees just now on @PFT_Live: "If I'm back, and Taysom's along side me, call the plays that puts us in the best position to win. If that means Taysom Hill is taking 30 snaps a game, 25 snaps a game, so be it. I'm all for that."@ProFootballTalk #Saints #WhoDat

Hill’s role in the Saints’ offense has expanded each year since he joined the team in 2017. He’s a rare talent in that he can throw, catch and run, and Payton loves to keep defenses guessing by utilizing Hill’s entire skill set. Hill only attempted six passes in 2019, but he rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown on 27 attempts and caught 19 passes for 234 yards and six scores.
Hill was also a factor in the postseason, where he wowed fans with his versatility early on.
Brees proved this season that he is still capable of playing at a very high level. He completed a whopping 74.3 percent of his passes and had a passer rating of 116.3, which was the highest mark of his career. He threw for nearly 3,000 yards with 27 touchdowns and four interceptions despite missing five games with a thumb injury.
Payton said recently that he is optimistic about the Saints bringing back all three of their QBs, but Hill is the only one who is guaranteed to return.
