Eagles make another significant coaching change

The Philadelphia Eagles have made several changes to their coaching staff since their loss in the opening round of the playoffs, and they are not done cleaning house yet.

Offensive coordinator Brian Johnson has been informed he will not return in 2024, according to multiple reports.

Johnson, 36, was promoted from quarterbacks coach to OC last offseason after Shane Steichen left to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

The Eagles fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai over the weekend, which was not a surprise given that he was quietly demoted in Week 15. Matt Patricia took over as Philadelphia’s defensive playcaller late in the season, but the Eagles are not bringing him back, either.

Head coach Nick Sirianni’s job is safe despite the Eagles collapsing down the stretch. They began the season 10-1 before losing six of their last seven games, including a blowout Wild Card round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Issues quickly compounded for the Eagles on both sides of the ball, and they clearly feel they need a revamped staff to address them. They will now search for a new defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator for the second straight offseason. Steichen and former DC Jonathan Gannon landed head coach jobs elsewhere last season, so the circumstances are a bit different this time.
