The Buffalo Bills confirmed tragic news about the family of defensive lineman Ed Oliver on Saturday.
Bills GM Brandon Beane issued a statement confirming that Oliver’s two-year-old son died. Beane said in a statement that they “continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.”

The Bills statement did not reveal any cause of death. However, Lance Lysowski of the Buffalo News reported that Oliver’s son died in an accidental drowning at the family’s Houston home on June 28. Police reports indicated that a toddler was found unresponsive in the family’s pool, and was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
Oliver has been with the team during training camp, though did not take part in practice this week. He will not take part in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.
Oliver, 28, has been a regular presence on the Buffalo defensive line since he was drafted ninth overall in 2019. His best season came in 2023, when he collected 9.5 sacks. He played in just three games last season due to injuries.
