Veteran wide receiver Eric Decker has announced his retirement from football.

Decker, who had been in training camp with the New England Patriots, announced Sunday that “it is time to hang my helmet up and start a new chapter in my life.”

A post shared by Eric Decker (@ericdecker) on Aug 26, 2018 at 12:09pm PDT

Decker turned 31 in March. He wraps up his career after eight NFL seasons, and will likely be best remembered for some very good seasons with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. His career ends with 5,816 yards and 53 touchdowns.

There had been indications that Decker wasn’t going to make the Patriots’ final 53-man roster. He appears to have been aware of that and decided to take the opportunity to hang them up and move into retirement.
