The Atlanta Falcons are making a change with offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris told reporters on Monday that Robinson would be coaching from the field moving forward rather than the coaching booth near the press box.
The Falcons have had multiple inexcusable problems, such as using timeouts or incurring penalties coming out of timeouts, when they should be well prepared. They have complained about headset communication issues this season, so having Robinson on the field could theoretically help improve the issue. There is also some belief that having Robinson on the field might be better for him to interact with second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
The Falcons are 1-2 this season and coming off a 30-0 blowout loss at Carolina on Sunday. Penix has gone 55/99 (58.6 percent) for 605 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. One of his interceptions on Sunday was returned for a touchdown. He’s also rushed for one touchdown.
Robinson, 38, is in his second season as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator. He previously served as a coach on the Rams’ staff since 2019, where he met Morris, who was the team’s defensive coordinator. Robinson was a star quarterback at Oklahoma State in college and bounced around the pro ranks from 2010-2013 before going into coaching.
