The New Orleans Saints had the No. 40 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and they left many people surprised with their selection.

The Saints went with a quarterback, but it wasn’t Shedeur Sanders. Rather, they took Tyler Shough, who spent last season at Louisville. Though some recognized the Saints were fans of Shough and likely to take him, their announcement still left many fans stunned.

Mostly, people couldn’t believe that the Saints had taken Shough over Sanders.

Sanders had the hype from his father, and from NFL Draft prognosticators, who had many thinking he was a top-five pick. But the Saints had two chances to draft on him and passed on him twice. The Giants also traded up to get a different quarterback — Jaxson Dart. That’s not a great sign for Shedeur.
