The Las Vegas Raiders do not have much to worry about when it comes to Fernando Mendoza getting himself into trouble in his new town.
The rookie quarterback is famed for his self-discipline and focus, and that is why he has no plans to visit the Las Vegas Strip anytime soon. Mendoza compared it to the scary house you avoid while trick-or-treating.
“I’ve been there once or twice, but I haven’t really experienced the Strip,” Mendoza told Michael Silver of The Athletic. “It’s like a boogeyman. A lot of people talk about the Strip like, ‘You don’t want to go there.’
“It’s like when you’re a kid; you’re trick-or-treating, and there’s the haunted house. You’re not trying to go over there.”
Mendoza is actually less worried about becoming tempted and more concerned with not deviating from the plan. He does not want to run into distractions, compromise on his disciplined approach, or do anything that could contribute to his potential failure.
How focused is Mendoza? The rookie quarterback skipped a White House visit because he did not want to miss OTAs. If he can do that, avoiding the Strip should be no problem for him, and that is a big reason why the Raiders like him so much.
