Frank Gore blasts season with Colts as ‘toughest’ of his career

Frank Gore summed up the Indianapolis Colts’ dysfunctional season pretty succinctly after the team concluded the campaign with a 30-24 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Following the Week 17 win, Gore said this was the “toughest season” of his career.

Frank Gore following the loss: "This was the toughest season of my career. A lot of f***** up stuff." To summarize: he was very unhappy.

— Tricia Whitaker (@TriciaWhitaker) January 3, 2016

Gore rushed for 76 yards on 19 carries, falling shy of his goal of 1,000 rushing yards for the season, so there was some disappointment for him even in the win.

But why was the season so bad? Maybe because Andrew Luck was hurt most of the season, then 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck was knocked out for the year, and third-string QB Charlie Whitehurst also got hurt, leaving the team to sign Ryan Lindley and Josh Freeman to play this week. On top of that, you had constant rumors about Chuck Pagano’s job security, and then reports said GM Ryan Grigson was undermining Pagano.

Recall that Gore played under Mike Singletary in San Francisco, and that last season with the 49ers the front office was pushing Jim Harbaugh out the door. For him to say this season with the Colts was his toughest tells you a lot about the conditions surrounding the team.
