Giants lineman Evan Neal curiously blocks no one on strange play

Evan Neal blocking no one

Evan Neal gave us a real controller-disconnect moment in Sunday’s game.

The New York Giants lineman Neal had a sequence in the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals where he inexplicably blocked nothing and nobody, thus allowing Arizona an open lane to quarterback Daniel Jones. Take a look at the video (with Neal on the right side wearing No. 73).

It is safe to say that Neal did absolutely nothing there. While that might be OK if you are a domesticated tabby cat, it does not look so good when you are a professional NFL offensive lineman. Even Cardinals defender Victor Dimukeje seemed momentarily stunned there, unable to comprehend the red carpet that had been conveniently laid out for him towards Jones.

In the end, it worked out just fine for Neal as Jones somehow managed to hit Darius Slayton for the 15-yard completion anyway. The Giants also got a happy ending, erasing an early 20-0 deficit to eke out the 31-28 come-from-behind win. But Neal probably will not be able to get away with that display next time around, especially since the job for the entire Giants offense just got a whole lot harder given the late injury suffered by Saquon Barkley.
