Jalen Ramsey declares himself best player in NFL Draft
Jalen Ramsey on Tuesday declared himself the best player in the NFL Draft and said he hopes his hometown Tennessee Titans select him first overall.
Ramsey performed well at Florida State’s Pro Day Tuesday and talked with the media afterwards about the draft.
“Especially for the Titans and their fans out there, I would love for them to draft me,” Ramsey said via Titans Online. “But I don’t want them to draft me because I am a hometown kid. I don’t want them to draft me because I am a kid from Tennessee.
“I want them to draft me because I am the best player in this year’s draft and being from Tennessee, that’s icing on the cake.”
Ramsey worked out at both safety and corner back in his Pro Day. He apparently did well at both, impressing football executives with his versatility. The Smyrna native played high school ball at Brentwood Academy in Tennessee and hopes he will be able to play in front of his hometown fans.
“I really am hoping they pick me. I am hoping to go No.1. I’ll be blessed no matter what, because it has always been my dream to play in the National Football League. So whatever team I go to, I’ll give it my all. But people want to go back home and play and I am a competitor, so I am always going for the top spot. It just so happens my hometown team has the spot in this year’s NFL draft, so that is what I am shooting for.”
Ramsey ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at the combine and posted a 41.5 inch vertical leap. Stats like that are ones teams love to see and should only enhance the DB’s draft status. The only question is which position he will play.
