Jay Cutler: I ‘would totally get it’ if Bears drafted quarterback
Jay Cutler admitted that he would understand if Chicago elected to take a quarterback in the upcoming draft, though he wouldn’t be thrilled with it.
Cutler will be 33 when next season starts, and it may make sense for the Bears to begin contemplating his heir apparent. Cutler gets it, but he’d rather have someone with an immediate impact.
“I would say I get it, I totally get it,” Cutler told the Chicago Tribune of the prospect of Chicago drafting a quarterback. “At some point it’s going to happen. They’re going to get somebody else. I’m not going to play until I’m 43. I understand that.
“But on the flip side, I’d be like, we really could have gotten somebody who can help me right now. So that would be my two reactions. If they do it, I will help whoever they bring in as much as I could and kind of see how it unfolds.”
Cutler still has a couple years left barring unforeseen circumstances, so he may have a point. The team may want to look at talent that can help them win while Cutler is still around.
