Free agent kicker Jay Feely asked for a tryout with the Detroit Lions seemingly as a Twitter joke on Sunday, and the veteran actually is getting his opportunity.

A Detroit sports fan frustrated with the Lions’ kicking issues sent a tweet on Sunday asked what Feely was up to. Feely jokingly replied that he was waiting for the Lions to call him.

Waiting for @Lions to call RT @mtaz23 My only question is.. What the hell is @jayfeely up to these days?

Well guess what happened next? The Lions reached out to Feely to bring him in for a look Monday.

Jay Feely is on his way to Detroit to work out for the Lions tomorrow, source says.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 6, 2014

Rapoport also says former Broncos kicker Matt Prater and former Bucs kicker Connor Barth will work out for the team.

The Lions released Alex Henery on Monday after he missed all three of his field goal attempts on Sunday. Whomever the Lions sign will be their third kicker of the season. We detailed their field goal struggles this season in a post yesterday.

Feely, 38, spent the past four seasons kicking for the Arizona Cardinals. He made 83.3 percent of his field goals last season.
