Jerry Jones reportedly unhappy Dez Bryant switched to Roc Nation

Tony Romo Dez Bryant

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has parted ways with agent Eugene Parker and signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports. Jerry Jones is reportedly not pleased about this.

According to multiple reports, Bryant signed with Roc Nation against the wishes of Jones. A source told Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports that Jones may be “reluctant” to reach a deal with Roc Nation.

Bryant, who is playing out the final season of his five-year, $11.8 million rookie deal, said over the summer that he would table all contract negotiations until after the season. Now that he has signed with Roc Nation, the 25-year-old said he is willing to discuss a contract extension during the season “if it’s right.”

It’s unclear why Jones is supposedly so against Bryant signing with Roc Nation. According to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com, NFL agent Tom Condon has been in discussions with Roc Nation about partnering to negotiate Bryant’s next deal.

Jay-Z will undoubtedly try to get top dollar for Bryant, but who wouldn’t? He’s easily one of the three or four best wide receivers in the game.

“(Jay-Z) was one of those guys who come from nothing, and look at him now,” Bryant said. “He’s a success, and all he wants to do is help.”

Of course, signing Bryant to an extension isn’t the only way the Cowboys can keep him, though it will be the only way they can keep him happy. Dallas could use the franchise tag on Bryant and pay him roughly $13 million in 2015, which is something Bryant said would leave him “highly disappointed.”

We’re guessing Bryant winds up staying in Dallas. There’s no way Jones wants to lose him while Tony Romo enters the twilight years of his career.
