Jim Harbaugh has some regrets after his Los Angeles Chargers lost an ugly season opener to the Arizona Cardinals.
The Chargers lost 26-14 in a home upset at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Ca. in Week 1, leading Harbaugh to have to answer some questions about why his team came out so flat to start the new season. Harbaugh admitted that, in retrospect, he would have been better off playing his starters more during the preseason.
“We made some preseason type of mistakes,” Harbaugh said, via Taylor Bisciotti of NFL Network. “Now I wish we played our starters more in the preseason to give them some game reps.”
The Chargers did play their starters in the preseason, but only for about a drive each game. In his mind, that was a mistake, although one has to question whether it is a fair excuse given the core of the team is largely the same as it was last year.
Still, this would count as a win for those who think the starters should embrace preseason more. Then again, plenty of other teams looked sharp with the same level of preseason preparation as the Chargers got.
