As far as Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is concerned, offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s seat isn’t even warm enough for the latter to worry about.
The Chargers are still winless after four games, as they lost to the reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, 30-23, at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. Despite the losses piling up and an atrocious offense, Harbaugh doesn’t see the Chargers parting ways with McDaniel.
“His job is not in jeopardy,” Harbaugh said, via Kris Rhim of ESPN. “He’s a skilled coach, and we’re going to keep growing.”
Still, it can’t be denied that Los Angeles’ offense hasn’t been right.
Against Seattle, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert got picked off twice and sacked four times for a loss of 35 yards, as Los Angeles committed a total of four turnovers. Herbert and company produced just six points in the first half. They looked much better in the second half, but the offensive unit’s inconsistency must be maddening for the Chargers and their fans.
McDaniel was hired by the Chargers in January to be their offensive coordinator after he spent the previous four seasons as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, who fired him just weeks before.
The 0-4 Chargers now return home to prepare for a Week 5 matchup against AFC West rivals Denver Broncos at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
