Jim Kelly: Rex Ryan will probably be fired if Bills do not make playoffs

Rex Ryan Bills

The 2016 season is shaping up to be a big one for the Buffalo Bills, and one of their legends believes it’s playoffs or bust for their coach.

Jim Kelly told the Jim Rome Show on Thursday that coach Rex Ryan’s job may well be on the line if the Bills fail to make the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.

“I think Rex [Ryan] will probably be looking for another job,” Kelly said of the prospect of the Bills missing the playoffs. “I think everybody knows that including Rex.”

Kelly believes the Bills are a potential playoff team provided they stay healthy.

“On paper, yeah, we look great, and we should be a very good team, but you cannot go to the playoffs, you cannot win championships when you’re spending most of your time in the training room,” Kelly said. “Tyrod Taylor, he’s got to stay healthy. We cannot afford for your top quarterback to go down and miss a quarter of the games or half the season. Your top players, your starters that make a difference on defense, those guys got to stay on the football field. They can’t be on the injured reserve list.”

Ryan does know what’s on the line in 2016, according to one report, and expectations for the team are as high as they’ve been recently. If they can build on an 8-8 season in 2015 and improve, they could achieve their goal. If not, it sounds like heads will roll.
