Jim Tomsula won’t commit to Colin Kaepernick as starting QB

Colin Kaepernick appears to have finally lost the confidence of San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula.

Just one week after he stood behind Kaepernick following a 20-3 home loss against the Seattle Seahawks by saying there is no quarterback controversy, Tomsula would not commit to Kaepernick as the starter for Week 9.

“We’re evaluating everything right now,” the coach told reporters Monday, via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. “We’re in the middle of it right now and I don’t have any comments on any position on our field right now.

“We’re evaluating everyone.”

After Kaepernick completed just 20 of 41 passes for 162 yards and no touchdowns in a 27-6 loss to the St. Louis Rams, Tomsula’s hands are basically tied. San Francisco’s offense is going nowhere and Kaepernick looks lost despite going four straight games without throwing an interception.

There’s very little chance the 49ers would look much better with Blaine Gabbert under center, but reports are starting to pop up claiming Kaepernick is losing the confidence of his teammates. Perhaps more troubling are the rumors about unrest in the locker room.

We know at least one 49ers legend who wants to see Kaepernick benched. If what Tomsula said — or didn’t say — Monday is any indication, Kaepernick critics may soon get their wish.
