Joe Montana’s son Nate tried out for NFL at regional combine

Nate Montana Notre DameJoe Montana’s older son, Nate, is trying to make it in the NFL. The 23-year-old quarterback tried out at a regional combine at Cowboys Stadium on Monday, and it seems like a very long shot for him to get a look on an NFL roster.

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks attended the regional combine (Montana was not invited to the scouting combine in Indianapolis), and believes it would be a long shot for Montana to make it in the NFL.

“It’s going to be hard for him to transition to the next level,” Brooks told NFL.com. “His passes don’t have zip. He has difficulty making pro throws.”

However, NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt believes Montana will be able to secure a camp invite.

Montana was a third-string quarterback at De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif., and attempted to walk on to the team at Notre Dame. He decided to try playing junior college ball in California after being buried on Notre Dame’s depth chart. He first tried to play at Mt. San Antonio College, then went to Pasadena City College to play. He went back to Notre Dame, then transferred to Montana, and finally ended up at West Virginia Wesleyan for his senior season.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder finally saw some success at West Virginia Wesleyan. He led the conference with 2,480 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in nine games.
