John Elway accidentally thanks himself instead of John Fox (Video)

John Elway, the Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations, kicked off his season-ending press conference on Tuesday with an incredibly embarrassing slip of the tongue.

What Elway wanted to do was start things off by thanking John Fox, who agreed to mutually part ways with the team as soon as the season ended. Instead of thanking Fox, Elway accidentally thanked himself.

“I want to start out this, ahhhh, press conference with a thank you to John Elway,” he said.

Whoops. Elway, clearly embarrassed, quickly corrected himself and thanked John Fox.

How does that even happen? There’s no shame in misspeaking and saying the wrong name, but how do you mistakenly say your own name? Perhaps Elway — he of five Super Bowl appearances and two championships — was nervous about the flurry of questions he was about to face.

We know that Elway is an intense guy from some of the things he has said in past press conferences, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him that rattled. I think somebody could use some shut-eye.
